Getting Started with Showit: Setting Up a Template

Showit is a great tool to build websites. You purchased a template and are ready to get to customizing it, but where do you start? What all needs to be done? This post will take you through everything you need to know to customize your template.

Adding your Template to your Showit Library

Adding your template is the first step in getting your template customized. If it is your first time using Showit, you will be prompted to create or add a design. If you already have a site on Showit, it will take you to your design space.

To add a new design, click your name in the lower left hand corner.

This dialog box will appear and you will select ‘Add to Library.’

Paste the Shared Design Key into the box and hit enter. The Shared Design Key is a code of numbers and letters unique to the template.

When you create a new site design, the design will be in the tab labeled Your Designs. A new design can also be added here following the steps above.

Customizing Site Settings

Select site settings from the left-hand side of the editor.

In the site info tab, you will add you domain, favicon, and name the design. I recommend not adding your domain until you have the site finished unless you have not launched. You can also add a ‘coming soon’ page and set it as your homepage until you are ready to launch.

In the blog tab, you can change your blog to this site. Showit will get your WordPress blog set up initially. This is how you can change it from one design to another.

Finally, in the Third Party tab, you will add you Google Analytics ID. Google Analytics will track visits and engagement on your site.

Customizing Design Settings

Next, you will edit the Design Settings to add your brand colors and fonts.

In the Site Style tab, you will add your brand colors and fonts.

To change the colors, click the square and add each HEX code then click OK.

To change the font for each section of the copy, click the three dots on the left and change the settings. This will set the automatic style of each copy section, but they can be individually edited as they are edited to the canvas.

Customizing the Media Library

To add your own brand photos and brand assets, you will upload them to the Media Library. Either select upload and choose the files you want or drag-and-drop the files into the library. Tip: I would recommend using .svg (scalable vector graphics) for your logos. These can be made larger or smaller and won’t get blurry.
