I’m a little late to setting my goals for the year, but I almost didn’t set any. You see, I’ve always been a goal setting, ambitious person. I am an Enneagram 3 after all. These past few years, I’ve reflected on my work, actions, and life. I’ve slowed down and placed focus on what makes me happy over focusing on achievement. I thought, maybe I won’t set any goals and I’ll just see what I can accomplish.
But then I saw a TikTok (isn’t that how it always goes?) from @erinljones95 where she said she turned her goals into a bingo card. And a light bulb went off! I used to work in higher education and I learned a lot about gamification. Gamification can take mundane things and turn them into a exciting adventure.
I thought this was an incredible idea because you can win bingo in a variety of ways. This took the pressure off feeling like my goals list was a task list. I decided to create a free template for you to create your own goal bingo card.
But… why stop there? As I created the bingo card, I felt inspiration to create a goals workbook. Sometimes we set goals and hope they’ll become our reality. Like throwing a boomerang, if we put them into the world they’ll come back to us.
I created the Goals on Purpose Workbook to help you set action steps to make your goals reality. To intentionally move the needle and get you closer to the business of your dreams, but not lose the fun in the process.
The workbook starts with an introduction page to share why I create it and an instruction page to guide you through setting goals, creating your bingo card, and choosing action items. I wanted to create a workbook that would guide you to create action items over a period of time, check in on how you are working towards that goal, and pivot as necessary.
After setting your goals, you are prompted to place them into the bingo card.
Pro tip: When placing your goals, try not to place similar goals near each other. For example, if you have a goal to get a $5k project and have a $5k month, you’ll achieve both if you get the $5k project. By placing them away from each other, it becomes a little more challenging to get bingo!
I’ve included a few goal tracking thermometer pages to help you track your goals. These come in a variety of number of thermometers depending on how many of your goals a number based!
I’ve already discussed how just goal setting was not the point of this workbook. It’s time to get intentional and create action items to help you achieve those goals. In the workbook, there is a page of action item boxes. For these, you will write a series of small steps that would help you achieve this goal. These need to be attainable. Think of these as a task list you will do to work towards your goal. There is a place to put a check-in date. The action items you write should be able to be accomplished by the check-in date.
When thinking about my goal check-ins, I set dates a few weeks, a month, or a quarter in advance. This felt like enough time for me to see progress and assess if I made manageable action items.
Now that you’re ready to set goals, I want to share some tips for goal setting.
